2021 The Year of Growth, Adventure and New Challenges
As you know, another year has left us, and a new year is well on its way. I wanted to stay connected and restart my newsletter by filling you in on my adventures from this past year.
After 10.5yrs, on March 31st, I left San Francisco to venture to the unknown as a digital nomad. I sold all my furniture, stored all my belongings, and traveled with only the essentials. You know... my oracle cards, amethyst crystal, pictures of all my loved ones, and my Apple TV. Oh, and yeah, two carry-on suitcases full of hopes and dreams waiting to take off.
I always admired my friends that traveled alone and have a deep sense of adventure. But, I thought this would never be me until recently because I was too insecure and scared to take such a risk. At times the level of discomfort from not having every step along the way figured out was overwhelming and paralyzing. But, this is exactly why I embarked on this journey. To strip back to the bare minimum, learn to have desire and intent without overattachment, manage my overthinking and focus intentionally on what matters.
Here are my three 2021 main take ways:
Your dreams are never too big - If I can accomplish even half of what I've set out to experience in this life, it will be more than I would have if I had never established such aspirations. The sky is the limit, and luckily dreaming doesn't cost anything.
Trust the process - There is only so much strategic planning I can do to eliminate unknowns and speedbumps along the way. However, the reality is that when shit falls apart, my plans don't pan out, and I find myself in a challenging situation; it helps to remember that somehow I will figure it out.
Cherish your connections - Amazing people and experiences outside my door waiting to enhance the journey ahead. In addition, great friendships stand the test of time and location. Whenever I questioned myself and had my "wtf Nef" moments, key friendships were there to jump on a call and helped me feel centered again.
My travels bought me to multiple destinations. I was fortunate to live in Denver, Playa del Carmen, Chicago, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and visited everywhere in between. Part of my highlights was being able to visit my three old stomping grounds, New York (where I was born,) Puerto Rico (where I grew up,) and San Francisco (where I came into adulthood.) In 2022 I'm looking forward to having a home base and splitting my time between Mexico City and small beach towns.
