5 Opportunities That Create Gratefulness in Me 2020!

5 Opportunities That Create Gratefulness in Me 2020!

It's easy to focus on all the things that are challenging us these days; shorter days, holiday blues, smaller family and friends gatherings, general exhaustion from coping fatigue, and the list could go on-and-on. But what if we take a step back, take a deep breath, and focus on the silver linings instead?

Here are my 5 silver linings for this year:

1- Strengthening my inner leader - this year more than usual has been full of internal challenges to stay focus, motivated, healthy, and sane. Focusing exclusively on myself has benefited me greatly and kept me out of a lot of unnecessary drama and conflict that comes from focusing on others. Don't get me wrong. I still disagree and have conflict but it's almost exclusively with myself now, hehe!

2- Increased self-compassion - many times I found myself low on energy and fatigued from coping. Allowing myself to just BE at times was challenging. Nurturing compassion for myself and others has deepened my well of resiliency.

3- A lower capacity to fake it - in the great words of Mark Manson and his 'Law of FUCK Yes or No', I now ONLY have the capacity to do things that make my heart sing. This applies to my career, clients who I work with, dating, friendships, and every decision I make in my daily life. We have no time to waste on relationships and experiences that don't build and feed our souls! (Shoutout to my friend Danny for this great realization)

4- Slowing down and enjoying the little things more often - this has been by far my biggest hurdle! As an extrovert and a High Sensation Seeker (HSS), the amount of stimulation that I require through new experiences, meeting new people, and my high capacity to process the world around me has underwhelmed me to the point of experienced sporadic moments of depression. There is beauty in every place we look. We just have to slow down to notice it. Scheduling frequent walks has helped do just this.

5- Strengthening my self-care practices - I always wanted to journal, meditate, pull an oracle card, and read every morning. Now I do all of these without skipping a day! I always wanted to feel like I'm not just running through life but intentionally planning my day. The intentionality that I can live my day-to-day will stay with me beyond this point in time and will most definitely enrich my life for decades to come!
